My grandfather's sister, Lacaphene (Steely) and husband William Preston
Smothers moved to CO about 1890 to 1900 with their 4 or 5 children. I know
from an old letter their cabin was in the area of Littleton. In the 1920
census Lacaphene was listed in Elbert Co. living with her son, Samuel. The
other children, if I have them right, were Clifford (who married Carrie Lutz
in 1909 in Denver and died in 1954 in Denver); Liston/Lyston; Arminta (who
"died young"); and William Everett, who we think married a Daisy Hodgson on
1897 in Denver. I would like to trace more of the family. Also, was there a
"gold rush" of sorts in that area of CO during that time? I am wondering
what drew them to CO.

Any help will sure be appreciated as I have so little on that part of the
family. Thanks!!! Nadine Mordt in St. Louis Co., MO
