Thanks, Al. I believe that the Denham Theater was open into the late '50s as
my dad worked on the theater sign pretty regularly (got us in to see movies
for free once in a while, too).
I remember when the Centre Theater was built as that was another sign the
company that Dad worked for was responsible for. All the guys (and their
families) who worked on the construction were given tickets to the world
premier of the first movie shown there in May 1954. It was "River of No
Return," starring Marilyn Monroe and Robert Mitchum. It was the first time
I ever saw a Marilyn Monroe movie. I was 13 years old at the time and the
glamour of the whole thing obviously made a lasting impression on me. ;-))
