If it were me I would send a request for death certificates. You need not know the exact date/year of death either. For $15.00 plus $5.00 more for them to search a group of years they will find them.
Try The State of colorado department of health web site. You can download a form off there.

After a lot of searching you will find not everyone had obits published. There are books at the library that are not on line. They might be in one of those?
