Dear Coffin Cousins.

Since September 1998, my son & I have done considerable research on our
COFFIN Line D-JOHN. We have Phebe MARSHALL, as the daughter of
Joseph Jr. & Phebe (FOLGER) MARSHALL of Nantucket, MA. Phebe MARSHALL
& Barnabas COFFIN were married Nov. 1772, before migrating to North
Carolina in 1773. SEE: "The Coffin Family", edited by Louis Coffin,
1962; p 266, 269 & 274; note here, that Phebe Marshall was listed
as "dr of Joseph & Phebe". According to Alexander Starbuck's "The
History of Nantucket", p 723: William & Priscilla (PADDOCK) COFFIN
"removed from the Island 8th, 4mo. 1773, taking all their family
with them who had not previously gone". According to a list,
reportedly to be from the Nantucket Historical Association's
archives -- Certificates transferred for Barnabas & wife in 1773,
and for William, wife & children in 1773, both fron Nantucket MM,
MA to New Garden MM, NC; and list also showed a transfer for
Libni Coffin, wife & children in 1771 with a transfer for
William Coffin, Jr. in 1772 (married Esther Starbuck in 1777)
-- both are sons of William & Priscilla (Paddock) Coffin.

I am also looking for information about the COFFIN Family's migration
from Nantucket, MA to Guilford Co., NC in 1773. Do you have any
information about the migrations of any of the Nantucket families?
Since the Nantucket people were seafaring peoples, did they sail down
the coast aboard ships, with or without cargo? Where did they dock?
What "traces" or "roadways" did they take across land? The above
list of transferred "Certificates" have a list of some 43 "family
units", that had Certificates transferred from Nantucket MM,
MA to New Garden MM, Guilford Co., NC, 1771-1791.

Barnabas & Phebe (Marshall) Coffin had 9 children, the youngest named
Priscilla is my gg-grandmother.

Any information that you can give to me, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! :-)
