Hi all,

One of my latest interests has been trying to find the ancestry of
Mary Severans, the wife of James^2 Coffin.

Mary was the dau. of John Severans and Abigail Kimball b. 5 Aug 1645.
The Kimball, Scott, and Whatlock ancestry of Abigail was worked
out by Walter Goodwin Davis and published as part of his
Ancestors of Phoebe Tilton in 1947.

(For those who don't know, Mr. Davis was one of our country's
top genealogists. He researched the ancestry of each of his 16
gg-grandparents as far back as he could and published a book
on each of them. The books are in descent format showing the
descent of each of the lines to the particular gg-grandparent.
He made liberal use of wills and parish records. Later, in 1996
Gary Boyd Roberts collected all the books together and
published them in 3 volumes as Massachusetts and Maine Families
in the Ancestry of Walter Goodwin Davis... .)

However, for her Severans ancestry, all I have found is the father of
Mary, John Severans (that's how the name was spelled in his will).
The best I have found on him is The Severans Genealogical History
by Rev. John F. Severance, 1893. What he can prove only goes
back to John who married Abigail Kimball. The Kimballs and Scotts
lived near Rattlesdon in Suffolk, Eng., I should note.

In the intro, he also mentions having found in Burke's Landed Gentry
several generations of a Severans family in Worcester -- clear
across England.
He has no proof that this family connects to the John Severans of
Suffolk.
All he has is that the Worcester family had _a_ John Severans who
may be
about the right age. I think it very unlikely that the John of
Worcester is
the same as the John of Suffolk.

Two questions:
Has anybody found the ancestry of John Severans who married Abigail
Kimball
about 1634 or 1635?

Is there any connection between this immigrant John Severans and
Severance (sp?) Hall in Boston where the Boston Pops used to play?

Regards,
Howard
