The lead-off of this line with Peter Coffin and his wife Mary
Boscawen is incorrect. According to "The Coffin Family", edited by
Louis Coffin, 1962, Mary was born 1550-1. Nicholas' grandson
Tristram was born 1606. This would leave only 56 years for
three generations, averaging slightly less than 19 years per
generation. This is possible, but not probable. Furthermore,
there is a will of another Tristram Coffin, dated 1601 and proved
1602. This Tristram would appear to be the uncle of Nicholas, and
appears to identify Nicholas' father as another Nicholas. I
believe there was never any evidence of descent from Peter Coffin
and Mary Boscawen - only wishful thinking based on her attractive
ancestry.
I too am quite interested in finding what, if any, further
ancestry can be found for our Coffins. I hope clearing away this
error will enable the elucidation of the correct line.
