Subject: Andrew COFFIN, Nantucket - Wife of Deborah CHADWICK ???
Date: Wed, 19 Nov 2003 10:30:35 -0500

Hello,

I am trying to determine "a family line" for a George COFFIN on my
extended
family tree. He married Esther CORKILL, a younger sister of my
great-grandmother, Mrs. Mary (CORKILL) LEWIS.

The consensus seems to be that this George E. COFFIN was the son of
Edward
C. COFFIN and Olive G. ELBRIDGE who were married in Nantucket in 1839.
And, this Edward C. COFFIN might be the son of Andrew and Deborah
COFFIN.
(Someone told me this is mentioned in the COFFIN book.)

I understand there were many Edward COFFIN's and many Andrew
COFFIN's in
Nantucket. One researcher on the LDS web site has an Andrew and
Deborah
(CHADWICK) COFFIN having a son, Edward C. COFFIN. But, they
have the
father of this Andrew COFFIN as Elijah COFFIN.*

I have checked the Archives of this List and of the COFFIN Message
Boards,
and there is very little posted about any Andrew COFFIN.

However, one researcher said that Edward C. COFFIN might be "of the
Peter
line." And, some on-line investigating found the following line:

Tristram COFFIN, b1609
his son,
Peter COFFIN, b1631 (m. Abigail STARBUCK)
his son,
Jethro COFFIN, b1663 (m. Mary GARDNER)
his son,
Josiah COFFIN, b1698 (m. Elizabeth COFFIN, dau. of James)
his son,
Andrew COFFIN, b1736 (m. ????)
(one of 13 children)

However, this Andrew was reportedly born in 1736, and Edward C. COFFIN
reportedly wasn't born until 1805.

One researcher told me of the marriage record for Edward C. COFFIN
and Olive
G. ELDRIDGE in Nantucket in 1839, and it mentioned the parents of
Edward C.
COFFIN as Andrew COFFIN and Deborah CHADWICK. If Edward C.
COFFIN was
born in 1805, then his parents must have been married somewhere
around 1800.
And, one LDS record showed them married in 1799, with Andrew being
born in
1773.

FYI: Researchers have told me that there were at least two Edward C.
COFFIN's, perhaps more, and that some researchers have mixed up their
information. I will guess the same thing has happened with the
Andrew
COFFIN's.

*The LDS record shows the Andrew COFFIN being born in 1773 and
marrying in
1799, as the son of Elijah COFFIN and Abigail FOLGER.
This is another couple which is not mentioned too much in the
Archives of
the Lists and Boards.
