We share only these 2 generations.
(I then descend from James' daughters Mary, Abigail, and Dinah)
As you may know, many records from Devon were destroyed by
German bombing during WWII. However, Charles Howard Colket
had extracted many church records and gotten copies of wills before that.
His manuscripts have been filmed by the LDS. The following Coffin info
is from his ms. LDS film #1,728,541. (There are others as well, which
I have not looked at.)
Tristram was christened at Brixton on 11 Mar 1609/10
[From the Registry of the Bishop of Exeter; From the transcripts of the Parish Regiser of Brixton: "From the xxvth of March 1609 unto the xxvth of March last past 1610; Tristram the sonne of Peter Coffin was baptised the xith of March." LDS #1,728,541 p. 54.]
Dionis was christened at Brixton 4 Mar 1609/10. [LDS #1,728,541 p. 35]
Mr. Colket said she died aft 8 Aug 1682 in Nantucket. ibid.
I failed to note any evidence of where he got that (if it was there at all).
But I do note in Nantucket Lands and Land Owners by Henry B. Worth,
p.300 (in a chapter on wills):
"November 29, 1681. Administration on estate of Tristram Coffin granted
to sons James, John, and Stephen. Estate later given to widow, Dionis."
So, maybe the Aug 1682 date is the date she was given the estate.
Apparently, their marriage date was not found. I use 1629, since their first
child was born in 1630.
Their son James was christened at Brixton 11 Sep 1639.
[From the Registry of the Bishop of Exeter; From the transcripts of the Parish Register of Brixton: "For the year of our Lord God 1639 last past; Christnings. September 11th James the sonne of Tristram Coffyn & Dionise his wife." LDS #1,728,541 p. 56.]
Mary Severance was born 5 Aug 1645 at Salisbury.
[Hoyt, Old Families of Salisbury and Amesbury, p. 314;
citing VR of Salisbury]
I do have a death date for her.
I do not see her mentioned in the brief probate info re. will of James Coffin
(proved 12 Aug 1720) [Worth, p. 306] So, maybe she died before then.
Regards,
Howard
