Hi Billie,
Thanks for looking into this. This can't be right either. Alvinita is a
cousin of Leonarda Vigil, who was married to Anastasio Duran. These were
the parents of Cenaida Vigil (my grandmother) born in 1899. They
promptly "gave" her to Juan and Alvinita to raise as their own. I would
think that they were already married for a number of years and unable to
have children of their own. I think that both of them would have been in
their late thirties by this time.
I guess I will have to try the Taos records.

Hi Dave- I checked the Colorado Marriage Index and did not find a Juan
Silva, but did find John Silva married Siria Vigil Dec. 19, 1900 in Rio
Grande County. Could this be the folks you are looking for? this is only
an
index and you would have to contact the county offices regarding a
certificate.
