Hi Gloria,
I was just checking the Kansas counties circa 1880 and I guess that it does fit nicely. Since William Collett was in the census with his son in Norton County, KS in 1880 and then Martin/Mastin was in 1900 Republic County, KS. I really wasn't sure of the geography of those counties, but see now they were all bordering Nebraska...
>From West to East:
Norton, Phillips, Smith, Jewell, Republic
So, yeah, the migration fits nicely really.
The 1880 Norton Co., KS census was enumerated on June 5, 1880...then, we have the death listing in Nov. 1880 in Smith County...then, by 1900, Mastin Collett in Republic County...a straight line of migration in date sequence.
I know that I had checked some Republic County, KS newspapers years ago for an obit for William Collett, but came up empty. It was only from the submission online through the LDS years ago that I had taken the date and place of Wm Collett's death as 1881 Scandia, Republic County, KS. I believe I sent you all of that researcher's paperwork (I was lucky to track that down), and it was lacking documentation to support the death info.
Anyway, I will be anxious to see what more is written in the earlier article of Wm Collett, Jr....even just a mother's name would be great.
Talk to you soon!
Barry

Hi All,
I was very happy to see that citation. Can't wait to hear what else you may
be found when the microfilm is viewed!
