The closest I can locate - having looked through all Hammett families in
South Carolina in 1850 - was the following: US CENSUS 1850, SPARTENBURG
COUNTY (NEXT TO GREENVILLE) James Hamit age 40, farmer, b. SC, E.C. (Female)
38, R.J. (Male) 15, L.M. (Female) 10; R.M. (Male) 10; Cassandra (Female) 8,
Jane (Female) 6, L.D. (Male) 4, Margaret (Female) 2.

The L.D. may be your Luther Dee. On the other hand, the L.D. may be a
misreading of L.P. James is absent from the census in 1870 in South
Carolina, and no female with first name beginning with E which fitsthis
fasmily occurs. Did your Hammett family move out of the area and if so,
where?I will be glad to search further. I made record of the 1850 Hammets of
Greenville and Spartenburg, S.C. if you would like the rest of them.
