I am searching the Matthews family on my mother side of the family and curious to know if Phillip W. Matthews has a connection with a John Charles and Harriet (Harper) Matthews. Given his age they most likely would have been his great grandparents but could have been just his grandparents. John and Harriet had 8 sons and one of the sons was a Charles and they also lived in California. It is rumored that it was John Charles who started the M.a.t.t.h.e.w.s spelling of the Mathews back in the 1860's so naturely the spelling caught my eye that this may be a descendent of our Matthews family.
