My mother was raised in a chicago orphanage named
Angel Gaurdian (Catholic). It is/was located at 2001
W. Devon on the north side and was in operation for
many many years. I was just there with my mother in
July. It is no longer an orphanage but is still used.
It is in good shape and the church, cemetery, and
cottages are still there. If you think this might be
the orphanage that your person was raised in then
contact the Chicago Archdiocese. They have the
records of everyone that was every in there. My
mother got her records and they contained a wealth of
information. Health info, School grades, pictures, A
list of everyone that ever visited her, why she was
placed into the orphanage, etc... It was probably
about 50 pages. She had to jump through many hoops to
get the records and provide a lot of information to
them such as birth and death certificates.
