Ancestry hires staff to transcribe these lists. They train
them first then have the films of the originals
transcribed.

ISTG has a core of volunteers (people like you and me) who
transcribe for them.

Olive Tree Genealogy (my site for ships lists) also uses
volunteers.

We are all separate entities, we don't confer with each
other before starting a project.
