Prussia was scary! My German* ancestors from Schleswig-Holstein, and
many of their neighbors, emigrated to the US rather than be counted as
Prussians. Before that they had been part of Denmark, then independent
for a very short time, and then part of Austria for a time. But it
wasn't until the Prussians took over that there was a mass exodus. I'm
sure the lesson wasn't lost on the Dutch and German settlers, as well
as native Poles, living nearby in Poland.
*Actually a mix of Dutch, Danish, Slavic and German
Its overpopulation stupid!
