The Colorado Historical Newspapers site is a valuable
resource in many ways. Looking for one of my
families, I came across a graphic description of the
1921 Pueblo flood in the Akron Weekly Pioneer Press
(Akron, Wash. Co.) 10 June 1921, p. 5.

Not all of the casualties came from the flood. My
relative -- Ernest E. WITHERS, then president of the
Pueblo Water Works -- was shot at Grand Ave. and
Eighth St. by a panicky National Guardsman. Ernest's
son, Granville (later the actor Grant WITHERS), who
was in the car at the time, must have been traumatized
by the event.

A list of Pueblo businesses destroyed by the flood
gives a good picture of the city in that era.
