Dear cousins,

yes, I tend to think at least most of the Cornetts in America descended
from the same group. the Grayson Co. VA family was quite large and well
traveled. I corresponded with someone recently who said his Cornett
ancestors were on the trail of tears. Some Cornetts probably did
intermarry with the Cherokee...still looking into that one myself.
Canute was the original form of the name, a derivative of Cnute, king of
Denmark, Norway and England I think it was. No, I'm not saying we are of
royal blood! But it is fun to pretend. I have a lot of research on
Cornetts, mostly done by my cousin. If the group wants, I can post bits
and pieces at a time to the list. I will start with my oldest known
Cornett and work my way forward, perhaps we'll make a connection.

John Cornett <1702> VA >James Cornutt <1727-1796> VA>James Cornutt <1755>
VA>Archelous Cornett 1779-1847 Elk Creek Grayson Co. VA>George Bourn
Cornett 1827-1896 b. Grayson Co. died Laurel Co. KY>George McIntyre
Cornett b. Grayson Co. VA 1859-1934 d. Prineville, OR

Notice the various spellings in the same family. Think that's bad...try
McDaniel/McDonald/McDonall...All the same person. Let me kno;w if you
want me to post what I have. (various stuff) Marsha
