Hello Lorraine
The Elizabeth I'm looking for was married. She was born Elizabeth Haley and
described as a sojourner when she married John Lawrence in nearby Callington
in 1794. I've not been able to establish anything about her origins but a
correspondent recently came up with an Elizabeth Lawrence living with a
family of Haleys in St Winnows in 1841. Naturally, my hope is that this is
not just a coincidence but as the 1841 census does not record place of
birth, exact age or relationships it's no more than a tantalising clue at
this stage. I tried to find what happened to Elizabeth by searching Free BMD
and the closest entry was the 1848 death of an Elizabeth Jane Lawrence in St
Germans. Although my Elizabeth was only described as plain Elizabeth on her
marriage, I know the workhouse/hospital for Callington was in St Germans so
it seemed worth following up - especially as Elizabeth's husband probably
died in 1849.
I will send for the death certificate but from the information you've
already given me I suspect it will only lead to disappointment!
Many thanks for your efforts on my behalf Lorraine.
Regards
Danny

Hello Danny,
whilst I dont have access to the actual parish records, I have been poking
around and found a few interesting things in the IGI.

The 1841 census has a Richard Lawrence / Laurence age abt 60, with wife
Elizabeth age abt 55, living at Saltash. This Elizabeth could be
the one who died in 1867, as the death entry in Ancestry.com says she was
born abt 1782.

The IGI has a Richard, christened c1794, son of Francis and Mary.
(Francis married Mary Hunt in 1793.)
Francis re-married in 1796, a Jenifer Short, and they had a daughter
Elizabeth, christened 1801.

Since you are enquiring about two Elizabeths, I'm assuming that they are
probably connected, so I wonder if this could be the connection.

Do you know if either or both Elizabeths were married and/or had children?

FreeBMD has the death of Elizabeth Jane and you may have to send for the
cerificate to really verify any information.

Sorry I cant make it easy.

best wishes
Lorraine
