My ancient dictionary gives barque as: 3-masted vessel with fore and main
masts square-rigged, but adds that it can be used for any ship or boat.
Thanks for posting these fascinating messages, though I am still worrying
over poor John Hill who went missing from Penzance. His parents said he
looked larger than his 15 years - oh no, do you suppose he was press-ganged?
