Subject: [CON-GEN] Calstock Steamboat Accident 1845

Hello Listers,
I have the following information from the London Times of 15 Apr 1845
regarding the suicide and inquest of John BOWHAY who died 10 Apr 1845
"His mind had been of late in a state of despondency, greatly increased a
month since by the accidental loss of several lives alongside a Colstock
steamboat in which he held shares. The inquest on Saturday returned a verdict
of temporary insanity".
I vaguely recall having read about this steamboat accident somewhere else -
and think it may have been around Easter that year? There is no sign of the
accident in the London Times 20 Mar 1845 - 26 Mar 1845 (Good Friday was
21st and Easter Sunday was 23rd). Please, does anyone have information
about the steamboat accident? Are there any local newspapers which may
give details? I believe the accident may have been on the River Tamar, and
would love to have the facts.
Joan
