Dear Colleen,
Some years ago I saw an article published in "The Gympie Times"
newspaper. They printed a story on some of the early pioneer families'
who came to Queensland in the 1870's. One of these stories was about
the
Carkeet family who came over from Cornwall and settled in Gympie. The
newspaper article mentioned the fact that the Carkeet family had some
ancestors who were sailors who had defended England from attack by the
Spanish Amada.
I know its not the Spanish connection you're looking for. However, I
thought you might find this interesting.
