Lynne, welcome. I too have BENNEYS but I don't see an immediate
connection. Here goes:
My gggparents were William James (1815-1862) and Elizabeth BENNETT (mother
may have been Mary) BENNEY (1817-1884) prob. of St. Cleer. Their first 5
children were b. Cornwall (5th in 1845), their 6th b. Mineral Point, Iowa
CO., WI 4/3/1851. Their 7th child (my g-grandmother), Ellen, was b.
7/19/1855 Michigan Bar, Folsom, Sacramento, CA. An 8th child, Thomas J.
BENNEY, 4/6/1860 at Negro Hill, El Dorado CO., CA.
Between 1845 and 1855, the BENNEYs sailed from Cornwall, spent some time
in WI, and came to CA (sail or overland?). William was a miner. He died
in 1862 in a flood on the American River in California. Elizabeth
remarried William PARRY 5/17/1870 in Santa Clara, CA.
Good luck!
