Dorothy, SInce I have Richards in my family I thought I would respond. Yes
it does seems like Richards is like Smith in US I went to UK phone book
looking for Richards in the Helston directory and found 49 hits!!! Oh My!
My great grandfather Samuel Colmer Richards was born in Helston Sept 12,
1872 to William Richards and Elizabeth Pyror Richards (There were
allegedly 22 other children)!!!! He emigrated to the U.S. when he was 18
years old to work in the gold and silver mines in Colorado (Telluride area)
He married a Mary Jane Penaluna (parents Thomas Penaluna and Sara Jane
Wells---maybe from Cornwall area, since Thomas was his sponsor on his
naturalization).... I will keep your e-mail address in case that I find
anything else that might relate....I have snail mail questions in to English
cousins that I still correspond with in Helston.
Susan (in sunny/rainy San Diego).
Happy Easter All! Pray for Peace.
