Thought the following might interest you re Richard Gerveys GRYLLS. The information was taken from the Wendron Parish Records at the Cornwall Family History Society Library during a visit from New Zealand in 1998.
A note for 1795 reads
A very great Scarcity of Grain prevailed this Year over England & indeed all Europe. 3597 Cornish Bushels of Barley: 172 Barrels of Flour: & 3000lb of Biscuit were imported by Subscription for the Consumption of the Parishes of Wendron, Crowan, Breage, Germoe, & the Borough of Helstone. Two Guineas were offered me, as mayor of Helstone, by Inhabitants of the Parish of Perran Uthnoe for two Winchester Bushels of Barley. Richard Gerveys Grylls, Curate.
Spelling and capitals as shown. Anybody know the difference between Cornish and Winchester bushels?
Waitakere City, New Zealand.
