Hi to those in the Newlyn area,

A simple question if I may:
My father's birth certificate gives his address when born in 5 April 1909 as
"Gwavas Terrace, Newlyn, Paul, U.D." Back in 1989 I managed to visit Newlyn
for about an hour, and could find Gwavas Road, Gwavas Bungalows but no Gwavas
Terrace. I finally came across "Carn Gwavas Terrace" which, based on old photos,
looks likely. My question is, what does "carn" mean? (it is used in front of the
names of some other places) and in common usage, would it be left off, i.e.
would "Carn Gwavas Terrace" be commonly just called "Gwavas Terrace"?
TIA
Ken Lucas
