When I took my Kentucky-born wife to meet the family back in Cornwall, my
Aunt Estrella was living at Carwinnion Cottage, Carwinnion Lane, Mawnan
Smith. Evelyn fell quite in love with the name. When we got back to
California, she pinned that name on our home in Daly City, CA.
Now here's the cream of the jest, if you will. We lived in an ethnicly,
racialy mixed neighborhood. When our White Liberal friends heard the
translation, they were horrified. Our Black, Latino and Asian friends
thought it was a great joke. Carwinnion translates into Sawsnek as "Camp of
the Fair People."
