The major centre of gold-mining in Minas Gerais, where British-owned
mining companies were active from the 1820s. A large proportion of the
skilled workforce came from Cornwall. For a really good history of the
Morro Velho enterprise , including extensive references to individual
Cornish mining families, see Marshall C Eakin "British Enterprise in Brazil:
