Talking of unusual names in the cotton industry brought to mind the Trade
Union my sister used to belong to in Lancashire. It was formed in c.1858 as
the Bolton Card Grinders and Strippers' Association, the union had several
name changes before joining the General, Municipal, Boilermakers and Allied
Trades Union in 1986.
