Well, I made it. I was delayed by the illness of several family members
including myself. Nothing serious, the usual respiratory infections of this
season. But I had to resort to VirginAir (they forgot my “Asian Vegetarian”
meal, as usual) and the Great Western night train. I forgot that I wasn’t
going all the way to Penzance and arriving bright and cheery in the morning,
but that I’d have to get out in the wee hours at Bodmin. Well, I found a car
and driver to get me to Jamaica Inn. The flag wasn’t much help in finding
the place, since it covers most, if not all, of Cornwall, but we tracked the
pole, and there was the Inn in all its glory. I roused a very nice
gentleman who informed me that all the rooms were booked, but that I could
have the last room up-along on the right because the ladies had all moved
across the hall. At least that’s what I think he was saying. I guess the
room is a bit draughty, because after I got into bed and was drifting off I
noticed some diaphanous whitish material floating about. I guess the last
occupant forgot some item of clothing. I hope she doesn’t come looking for
