Hi Albert - Same with my daad. He went off to college to NOT work in the
mines in the Grass Valley and Nevada City (CA) area, then joined the army
right after Pearl Harbor with one semester left in college. He never
finished his education after the war. He had worked in the mines as a summer
job in high school so he knew that wasn't for him! When he married my mom,
her father gave him a job in the family grocery store so he wouldn't have to
go back to the mines.
