Mike,

It is more than likely they were in Victoria. Prominent gold mines were at
Ballarat and Sandhurst (Bendigo).

The Victorian Government has shipping lists online at:

This covers assisted shipping lists from 1839 and some unassisted
immigration.

Victoria was under the jurisdiction of New South Wales until around 1850.
So some shipping records are still in NSW.

Three brother named TOBIAS, JOHN and JAMES UREN travelled to Australia in
the mid nineteenth century where they appear to have been successful in
"gold mining". All three returned to Cornwall where they established a
series of tin mills.

I believe (to be verified) they were all born in Ludgvan and all three died
in Treleigh (near Redruth). Tobias died 02/01/1906 aged 72. John died
08/02/1891 aged 69. James died 28/11/1896 aged 70.

They returned to Cornwall from Australia in about 1865 / 1870. I do not know
the region of Australia they worked. Does anyone have any suggestions as to
how I can find out about their Australian activities, both in work and
family ? Passenger lists etc.
