Flo Nell,

thanks for you data. I do believe now that the John Sr of Enoree who
received a land grant in Spartanburg in 1773 on the Enoree River is indeed
the son of Ole Thomas. For years I doubted this but now I am convinced.
John Sr and his sons, John Jr and Thomas along with younger brothers
Benjamin, Issac, and James moved to Greenville, Co SC about 1798-1800. Son
Thomas Couch and Elvey Lynch had two sons while in Greenville County, John
(Mitchell?) b 1800 and Malachi b 1803. One source says they had another
son, Jesse, in Tennessee in 1805. Nontheless, John Sr, John Jr and Thomas
had adjoining land on Indian Creek in Madison County, AL Mississippi
Territory as early as 1809. They were in Madison County along with John Sr.
other sons Henry Meredith, Drury, Gabriel, and Jesse, Some were later in
Morgan County, AL and then by 1824 they were all in Lawrence County, AL.

Thanks for the data on the John Couch Sr will (b 1745 in Brunswick Co, VA or
Orange Co, NC) John Sr first married Betsy Patterson and later Sarah Nancy
Ann.

I have seen a second hand record of John Sr's will naming a child. However,
the name I have saying she spent 16 years keeeping house for John Sr since
death of wife Sarah Nance Ann was daughter Sarah.

I do have daughter Nancy marrying a Lampkin or Lumpkin. Have you actually
seen this will?
I have also seen reference to the Tishomingo County census of 1840 saying
the household contained someone age 90-100. I would appreciate any
elaboration of this family that you can offer. I have been searching John
Couch and his family for some 40 years and I think I know a lot but I am
sure I do not know everything. Just recently, I found a couple of
references calling him ( or another John) Long John Couch.

Let me hear more from you. Thanks,

bob Couch
