There is at least one example of Couches who became Crouches due to regional
linguistics/illiteracy in years past, sort of like Chicargo for Chicago.
See the Rev. War pension record for William Couch/Coutch/Crouch of NC/VA/PA
militias on the Couch Rootsweb website whose ancestors are now partly in the
Sneedville/Hancock Co. TN area (NE Tennessee). Much of this family now
goes by Crouch. This Wm. Couch may link to Old Thomas Couch 1690 of
Brunswick Co. VA or he may link in with the Quaker Couches of SE Virginia
