Robert, I am still pouring over your projections and will get to you on that
later. Nice work, very intriguing. I am intrigued by the Thomas Couch you
mention that was the Captain of the Fortune and/or the Palm Tree. I saw
(and made copies of) a Thomas Couch in 1694 who, with a (Francis?) Jones,
were "Factors of London" (a factor was a buyer/seller) and were in a dispute
about money owed them by the Lee family in Northumberland Co. VA on the
Chesapeake Bay and the Rappahannock River that went on for several years.
"Jones & Couch, Factors of London" initiated the lawsuit in Northumberland
Co. VA. It was over a storage of tobacco the Lee's either lost or got
stolen. That info is on the VA website too.
Now---I realize that the Thomas Couch/Crouch I saw on the VA library
website, the one that was too old for muster (obligatory military service)
was NOT 1608, but is actually the one that is in 1623/1624 record. In other
words, the 1608 reference I thought I saw in Richmond VA was a false lead
and I apologize for that. I should have made a copy then but was trying to
do too much while I was there for the day.
Jamestown experiment was such a mess and most died anyway, I am a little
skeptical if Thomas Couch 1623/1624 survived. I bet that Thomas Couch ship
captain and factor is worth pursuing but it would help if the Cornwall folks
could add to that. There is just not anymore of a record in VA other than
that. Danny Couch
