It has been speculated lately that Captain John Couch and James Couch of
Buckingham Co. VA are brothers. It is also speculated that Capt. John and
James may be children/descendants of Thomas & Elizabeth Couch of Brunswick
Co. VA since the DNA is matching up. They may/may not be brothers, but then
what of the James Couch in Brunswick VA1735 who went to Orange Co. NC mid
1740's and got a grant in 1754 he quickly sold to Michael Synnott and then
James ended up in Spartanburg/Greenville District SC with grants in 1784?
One of these James cannot be the son of Thomas & Elizabeth.
It has also been speculated that Capt. John Couch is the John Couch born
1750 who married Elizabeth/Betsey Patterson and that this James is the one
who married Elizabeth Powers. James is listed on his chart as being born in
1739 in England. He may have been born in 1739 but I am skeptical that he
was born in England without some sort of reasonable proof. Any ideas?
