I nominate Horatio I. Sprague to be consul of the United States for
the Port of Gibraltar, in the place of Horatio Sprague, deceased.

I nominate Henry W. Tilley to be deputy postmaster at Georgetown, in
the District of Columbia, from and after the 11th day of Jane, 1848,
when his present commission will expire.
William Noble to be deputy postmaster at Burlington, in the State of
Vermont, from and after the 15th day of June, 1848, when his present
commission will expire.
Alfred Huger to be deputy postmaster at Charleston, in the State of
South Carolina, from and after the 22d day of July, 1848, when his
present commission will expire.
Daniel Bryan to be deputy postmaster at Alexandria, in the State of
Virginia, from and after the 2d day of July, 1848, when his present
commission, will expire.
Neill Blue to be deputy postmaster at Montgomery, in the State of
Alabama, from and after the 2d day of July, 1848, when his present
commission will expire.
Mary Dickson to be deputy postmaster at Lancaster, in the State of
Pennsylvania, from and after the 2d day of July, 1848, when her
present commission will expire.

I withdraw the nomination of Captain Richard H. Ross, 7th Infantry,
and Captain William I. Hardee, 2d Dragoons, for brevet promotion of
majors to date from the battle of Churubusco, and now nominate them
for brevet promotion as follows:
Captain Richard H. Ross, 7th Infantry, to be major by brevet, for
gallant and meritorious conduct in the battle of Monterey, Mexico, to
date from the 23d September, 1846;
Captain William I. Hardee, 2d Dragoons, to be major by brevet, for
gallant and meritorious conduct in the affair at Medellin; Mexico, to
date from the 26th of March, 1847;
I also nominate Captain Richard C. Gatlin, 7th Infantry, to be
major by brevet for gallant and meritorious conduct in the battle of
Monterey, Mexico, to date from the 23d September, 1846; and
Second Lieutenant Philip W. McDonald, 2d Dragoons, to be 1st
lieutenant by brevet for gallant and meritorious conduct in the
battle of Monterey, Mexico, to date from the 23d of September, 1846.

Montgomery, dismissed.

T. Adams, whose commission will expire on the llth of June, 1848.

George C. Hutter, of Virginia, to be an additional paymaster, vice
Cloud, deceased.
Richard H. Weightman, of the District of Columbia, to be an
additional paymaster, to fill a vacancy, the number of paymasters in
service being less than the complement authorized by the law above
cited.
