The following petitions and other papers were laid on the Clerk's
table, under the 24th rule of the House, to wit:
By Mr. Daniel T. Jones: The petition of Ebenezer Couch, of the
State of New York, a soldier of the war of the revolution, praying
for an increase of his pension; which was referred to the Committee
on Revolutionary Pensions.
By Mr. Townshend: The petition of Joel Adams, an invalid of the
Mexican war, praying for a pension; which was referred to the
Committee on Invalid Pensions.

By Mr. Mace: The petition of citizens of the State of Indiana,
praying for a grant of land to aid in the construction of a railroad
from Springfield, in the State of Illinois, to Andersontown, in the
State of Indiana, via Danville, Covington, Crawfordsville, Lebanon
and Noblesville; which was referred to the Committee on Public Lands.
By Mr. Gamble: The petition of citizens of Northumberland county,
in the State of Pennsylvania, praying for a modification of the
tariff; also a capitation tax upon all emigrants from foreign
countries, for the protection of American labor; which was referred
to the Committee of Ways and Means.
By Mr. Millson: Additional papers as evidence in the case of
William B. Bingley and wife; which were referred to the Committee on
Naval Affairs.
In pursuance of the resolution of the House of Monday last, the
Speaker proceeded to call the committees for reports, resuming the
call where it was suspended on yesterday.
On motion of Mr. Henry D. Moore,
Ordered, That the Committee on Public Lands be discharged from the
further consideration of the following petitions and resolution, and
that the same be laid on the table, viz:
The petition of the defenders of Baltimore, praying for a further
grant of land in consideration of their services;
The petition of James W. Marshall, of California, praying for a
grant of land in consideration of his discovery of gold in
California, in 1847;
The petition of Peter Lane, praying for a grant of land for
services rendered during the last war with Great Britain;
The petition of Hannah Obar, praying for a grant of land for
similar services of her father Solomon Nichols; and,
The resolution of the House of the 12th of January last, relative
to an allowance of bounty land to certain companies of South Carolina
volunteers and others.
On motion of Mr. Henry D. Moore,
Ordered, That the Committee on Public Lands be discharged from the
further consideration of the bill of the House (No. 64) granting
bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in
the military service of the United States; and that the same be laid
on the table.
Mr. Hall, from the Committee on Public Lands, to whom was referred a
joint resolution of the State of Indiana, in relation to the saline
lands therein, reported a bill (No. 270) to enable the legislature of
the State of Indiana to dispose of the unsold saline lands in said
State; which was read a first and second time.
After debate,
Ordered, That the said bill be engrossed, and read a third time.
And being engrossed, it was accordingly read the third time and
passed.
Ordered, That the Clerk request the concurrence of the Senate
therein.
Mr. Hall, from the same committee, to whom was referred the bill of
the Senate (No. 1) entitled An act granting the right of way and
making, a grant of land to the State of Iowa in aid of the
construction of certain railroads in said State, reported the same
with sundry amendments.
The said amendments having been read,
The Speaker stated the question to be on agreeing thereto.
