I, too, thank you for your posting. My COURTNEYs also have much in common
with the locations and time frames that they were. I think that there is
probbly a tie, but don't have it yet.
My Henry D. COURTNEY was b1826 Morgan VA according to his pension papers.
This would place his birthplace as Monongalia WV today. In 1845 he enlisted
in the army at Cleveland OH. After 5 years in the army, he worked his way
as an agent for various forts in Indian Territory, eventually settled in
southern OK. Our family stories talk about Henry being Irish. His pension
papers decribe him as dark complected with grey eyes.
I have been very interested in these COURTNEYs that migrated from Monongalia
WV to OH c1830 or so. My Henry also went by the name Henry C. DECOURTNEY,
not sure if he was trying to make a statement on his parentage or someone
just mispelled it at one time. Wanted to tag onto these posts with the
hopes that someone may have a missing Henry of these families.
