Subject: [COX] Progress Update on Cox Coop Library

Well, it's not *real* good news ... but tonight I thought of one last thing
to try that I haven't tried yet to retrieve all the lost data from the Cox
Coop Library ... and will try it tomorrow -- keep your fingers crossed!

A little history (for those new here):

The host with whom I had the Cox Coop Library stored on went under, with no
notice. Took the Cox Coop Library with it. I found a new server, and with
the help of many of my Cox "cousins", was able to secure a site for a full
year on which to host the Cox Coop Library. That was great! I thought
(foolishly now, I realize!) that I had *all* the Cox Coop Library data saved
in a couple of locations. Unfortunately, one of those locations was a hard
drive we had removed out of a computer months ago and it has been sitting in
a drawer. When I put it in my computer to retrieve the information off of
it, it tells me that the hard drive is not readable! Grrr!!! BUT, there is
an application that I just remembered I have that *might* restore what I
think are damaged sectors on the hard drive and enable me to read -- and
retrieve -- the information there.

If that doesn't work ... well, it means recreating the Cox Coop Library from
scratch. Ugh! I hate the thought of that, which is why I guess I have been
dragging my feet! But, I'm getting over that hurdle now ... such a
depressing thought! So many hours of labor wasted! Oh well ... time to
move forward, right? Hey Carol V -- why didn't you pester me until I sent
you a CD back up of the Cox Coop Library?????

I have literally hundreds -- maybe even a couple thousand documents to be
formatted and indexed into the Cox Coop Library, which, of course, will take
some time ... but I will get it done! I have actually started on it this
week, which is why I am sending this update.

Now, I have a question for you Cox Cousins out there -- mostly the "old
timers" that have been with me, and this list, for a long time (it's been
going since the mid-90's or early 90's): have any of you, by any chance,
saved any files to your hard drives from the Cox Coop Library? If you have,
that would be so great if you could send them to me, privately, at my email
address: <mailto:> ... I have very
little information that I have found to upload (as you all have probably
noticed from trying to look thru the Cox Coop Library) and ANYTHING would be
great! I have tons of information, like from Winnette and Carol and Janet
and others that have so graciously posted their findings to the list, but
it's all stuff from the last 6-12 months. Anything that was added to the
Cox Coop Library prior to the spring of 2000 is lost, unless I can possibly
retrieve it from this defunct hard drive tomorrow.

Thanks again to all you wonderful Cox Cousins for your generosity in
financial, emotional, physical, mental, moral and data support! You are the
best! I feel blessed to belong to such a wonderful -- and large --
family!!!
