This is my analysis of the 1820-1850 Census records for Scott County,
Virginia and I include a Will and an Affidavit as some of my reasoning.
There are some who may argue my analysis.

Scott County Will of David Cox

In the name of God Amen, I David Cox P.D. of Scott County and State
of Virginia being sick and weak in body but of a sound mind and of dispos-
ing memory do hereby make my last will and testament in manner and form
following that is to say. 1st, I desire that all the perishable part of my
estate
be immediately sold after my decease and out of the monies arising therefrom
all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid should the perishable part of
my property prove insufficient for the above purposes then I desire that my
Executor here after named may sell part of my real estate to satisfy the
balance
of my debts. 2nd, after the payment of my depts and funeral expenses I give
to my wife Sarah Cox all the household furniture and all the beds and bed
furniture during her natural life or her widowhood with the exception if
either
of my daughters should marry the widow is bound to furnish each of them
with one good bed and furniture also the dwelling House and all the land
from the crop fence below the barn up.
3rd, I give to my son Jacob Cox all the land lying below said Cox's
Spring branch that is to say beginning at Bickley's line running up said
branch
fifty yards above the corner of the field on the west side of said branch
then
running a due west course to my line to him and his heirs forever, that is
to say on
these conditions if said Jacob Cox do take all the farm except that left to
the
widow and cultivate it with the help of the balance of the family and said
Jacob
Cox is to see that the family is sufficiently supported until the youngest
comes of
age also all his younger brothers to be learnt reading Riting and Arithmetic
to
the rule of these that is to say Isaac, James, David, William, Henderson,
and
Henry Anderson.
4thly, I give to my sons Isaac, James, David, William, Henderson, and
Henry Anderson, all the balance of my land to be equally divided when Henry
Anderson becomes of age except that given to my son Jacob afther the death
of their
mother.
5thly, All the rest of my estate both real and personal not herein
before disposed of I desire may be equally divided among all my children
which I
give to them their heirs executors administrators and assigns forever, and
lastly, I do hereby constiture and appoint my friends David Cox and James
Cox executors
of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all others.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 22nd
day of August in the year of our Lord 1832.

At a Court of the Quarterly Sessions held for Scott County the 14th day
of November 1832.
This last will and Testament of David Cox Deceased was proven by the
oaths of Charles W. Bickley and Elias Dean witnesses thereto and ordered
to be recorded.

Affidavit

????? Alwilda Cox Compton being duly sworn makes affidavit as follows:
My name is Alwilda Cox Compton and I am the daughter of David Cox
and Mandy Lawson Cox. I was born July 25, 1868. We lived at Nichols-
ville, Scott County, Va, when I was born and ????? ???? ???? here in Scott
County all my life.
My grandfather was David Cox and he married Sally Todd. My father's
brothers and sisters were: William; Isaac, who married a Fairchild; Jacob;
Henry; Peggy, who married Berry Compton; Polly, who married Mike Elliott.
My father was David Cox and my mother amanda Lawson Cox. Their
children were: William married Easter Baker; Mary married Moses Enoch;
Henry married Nancy Stallard; Elizabeth married Charles Ritchey; Jane who
never married; David Lafayette married Emily Wolf; Catherine married Tom
Vickers first and Lige Frazier second time; Helen married William Enals;
Alwilda who married Emanuel Compton April 12, 1902; John who married
Sarah Vickers.
My father died May 16, 1900. He was 75 years old when he died.
He was born Sep 28, 1824. He was buried in the family cemetery on top
of Copper Ridge, Scott County, Virginia.
I remember of seeing my Uncle Isaac. He was a little fellow all humped
shouldered. I remember seeing my uncle Jacob and was at his funeral. I
can name part of Uncle Jacob's children. They were: Jacob Jr. married first
Matilda Carter a Widow, second Catherine Ehlam; Bob married Sarah Stapleton;
Joab
married Becky Gilliam; Caroline married Jasper Collyer; Catherine married
Byrom Welsh; Susie Married Dave Corder; Rebecca married James Sluss;
Linda married Daniel Shipley; George married Lizzie Holyway; Crockett
married Eliza Ehlam.
That is all I can remember of the family records.
