Hi,

I'm a bit confused and would like a little help. Looking at the Crains in Illinois I find this;

Jasper and brother Spencer moved to the area that is now Eight Mile Prairie, Williamson
Co., IL in 1816 (near Crab Orchard). Jasper was buried on the farm cemetery near
Crainville, IL. Much information comes from the deed transfers generated in the probate
proceedings following Jasper's death.

and this;

The Crain family lived in Wilkes County, North Carolina from about 1778 to 1792. They
were in Surry in 1777, Rowan in 1768, and Granville County before that. George and
William were supposed to have fought in the American Revolution from Wilkes County. The
family migrated from Virginia and then moved on to Georgia after the Revolution.

and finally this;

The Crain family is a very large one. Spencer & Jasper Crain settled in this county in an
early day. Spencer had several children; among them was Jasper U.; Jasper, Sr., had
several, among them William & Spencer, Jr

Checking around I find this Spencer Crain shown in several places to be Spencer & Mary
Tompkins Crain. Not trying to start a second vendetta (in case you're not familiar with this
family, they are the Crains involved in the "Bloody Williamson Vendetta"), but this doesn't
seem to be possible. Spencer & Mary died in Georgia about 1830-1835, they can also be
found in the Georgia census in both 1820 and 1830. He can't be in Georgia and Illinois at
the same time. There is no doubt there was a Spencer & Jasper Crain, brothers, who
settled in Illinois in 1816-1817. According to the birth places of Jasper's children, they, or at
least Jasper, was in Georgia, 1795-1800, and then Tennessee, 1808-1814. Who are
Jasper and Spencer's parents? Who are Spencer's children other than Jasper Urvin?

Wouldn't it be nice if someone from this family submitted DNA?
