I also have a George Washington Crawford, born about 1795 in Rutherford Co.,
NC, maybe son of John Crawford, married to Mary (Polly) Hunter in Rutherford
Co., NC. He died in Fannin Co., GA, which was split from Union Co., Ga where
he and Mary appear on the 1850 Union Co. census. His son Levi married in
Union Co. in 1850/51 (would have to double check the date) and moved by 1860
to Winston Co., AL where he appears on the census with wife Biddie and
several children. Levi was my 2nd great grandfather. Other children of G.W
and Mary remained in Fannin Co., including another George W. George
Washington was quite a popular name in that time. I also have another
grandfather of that generation named George Washington Ward. Folks were
quite patriotic in those days, and named their children for their heros.
