Okay, I understand that there are two different opinions on this subject (at
least two) and honestly, if someone would rather correspond on a one-to-one
basis, I would not force her/him to send messages to the list. But I would
encourage it. You never know where the missing link might be, and the more
exposure you get, the better chance to find that link. Also, messages sent
to the list are archived, and searchable. Someone three years from now may
find an archived message leading back to the original poster, and the
connection will be made. Genealogy is not a fast hobby and patience is an
asset.
To post to the list is easy enough, just send your message to
and all listmembers will see it. And some just
might respond, by private mail or publicly to the list.
Above all, enjoy yourself. Hobbies are supposed to be fun, remember?
