Jeannette, I also am searching for Canadian Crawfords from Ontario. They
were from the Stratford - Mitchell- Hamilton - Buffalo N.Y. areas. from at
least 1830 on.
Names are...
father: Henry believe he was born Hamilton Ont. but could be Hamilton
County USA.
Wife of Henry : possible Mary Ann
Children: Susan Augusta , Mary Ann, Alexander(Sandy) John Henry, Augusta and
William. I know that three of them: John, Susan Augusta and Augusta moved to
Chicago/Buffalo N.Y.
SUSAN AUGUSTA: b. abt 1828 America died Chicago 1898 Buried in Buffalo N.Y.
was a seamstress, was struck by streetcar. Her belongings were sent to my
Great grand parents in B.C. (Alexander Crawford ) Marriage status unknown
JOHN HENRY: was born July 6, 1830 lived in Canada, died in Chicago 2 Aug.
1921 he owned a book/cigar store. Struck by car. Don't believe he married.
When he died family from Ont. traveled to Chicago to collect his belongings.
There was supposedly a gold watch that was to go to my great uncle John
Henry in B.C.Canada because he was named after him.
AUGUSTA:born in Canada but died in Chicago 25 Sept.1875 she was unmarried.
There is a large monument in the grave yard in Buffalo where the three are
buried.
ALEXANDER: My great grandfather married Elizabeth (Eliza) Rollinson in
Mitchell, Ontario, they lived for a while in the Red River Manitoba area
before moving west via USA then up to B.C. He had served in the Riel
Rebellion and the Manitoba uprising. Played in the Mitchell band.
WILLIAM : I have no information on I believe he was born in Canada but no
proof. I wonder if he was the one who collected JOHN CRAWFORD'S personal
belongings. Perhaps he moved to Chicago or Buffalo as well... I keep hoping
that someone out there can help me. Much of the paper documents where
destroyed by fire and by unthinking people. I really need to find a sibling,
cousin, aunt or uncle of this family....on either side of the boarder. Would
appreciate any clues or help. I also have a old mystery photo of two little
boys in Scottish dress from a photographer in Brandon, Manitoba... I have no
idea what happened to their parents. Sharon.
