Thanks, Bronwyn! Very well put.
My nearest Crawfords were Ayrshire/Renfrewshire and vicinity but some of the
distant cousins went to Ireland and USA, and their descendants over there
are helping me with my ancestors. I'm currently transcribing some Crawfurds
onto Mark's webBase from Burke's "Commoners of Great Britain and Northern
Ireland". I don't know if any of them had younger sons with descendants in
Worcestershire, but they may have; where did those ones come from? Colin
should have a look at the webBase if he hasn't already:

(and not only Colin but all Crawford listers should)

Hello Colin,
I saw and read your email on your English Crawfords in Worchestershire
with interest.
The list has mainly USA listers, but dont leave because it is people
like you that we all need and love to hear from, the New Zealanders,
Australians, Canadians and Americans who are trying to swim the big pond
to find our Crawford UK, Irish & Scottish ancestors, and we are
passionate about it. It is a very hard task for all of us believe me,
and we need UK listers to help us, and become involved in the surname
Crawford as a whole rather than as a single entity.
Wanda Tracey and Mark Flloyd are two of our notable USA listers who
supply info for all of us on a regular basis, that I know everyone
really appreciates.
(my appologies if I have left anyone else notable out - please speak up)
We need people from the England, Scotland and Ireland to take up the
same.
Send info to the list on anything Crawford that is discovered in the
archives of everything English, Irish & Scottish. Particularily family
trees, census info etc.
This is the key to discovering where all those UK Crawfords emigrated
too, and in the process we discover a bigger more facinating tree that
one ever realised.
This is the listserve with great connections.
Just to advertise again:
The Crawfords Iam researching came from Greenock in Renfrewshire,
Scotland.
Alexander Crawford m. Mary Hill in 1828 at Linlithgow, Midlothian,
Scotland, then moved to Greenock. Iam terrifically stuck big time.
regards
