I recently posted on BB, about the death of my great-uncle, the last
surviving grandchild of my great-great grandfather that died in 1858. This
was pretty significant for genealogists. I received a "internet" sympathy
card, from a woman who identified herself as this man's niece. She wanted to
make contact with my great-aunt. I have the complete genealogy on that side
of my family, and there is NOT a person by that name, never has been. When I
tried to email her back, the e-address was not valid. This person has never
contacted me again, if she had been family, she would have tried. I
contacted my great-uncle's family...and they knew NO one with this name....
but they were all warned. It is more common than any of us believe. I
reported her to both the BB, and the web host she sent the email
from.....even the web host does not exist.
Just a supportive first hand experience on this one!!!!
