Rae, unfortunately I do not know which of the two I came from. Swaynes
father of the two is the one we may be descended from so far. I plan to try
to go further down, but it becomes increasingly difficult to get real hits
when you go up or down the chains. The two you are asking about had many
Johns, Reginalds, etc and they show up in different generations, which is
confusing.
I do not know of any Crawfords that I am related to that came from Canada. I
wish I did, because I love Canada and New England.
By the way, there are many ways to spell Swayne's name.
I am almost certain that the Joseph I am looking for came into Penn. Then
migrated to Union County SC, of he came into Charleston, SC. Both of these
people came from Northern Ireland, having earlier been in Scotland around
Ayrshire in the south west of Scotland.
Keep working at it and you will finally get a hit.
Ben

Hi Ben,
I've been very interested in your submission re the Crawford history,
and your reply to Betty. My Ontario, Canada Crawford ancestors go back
to Scotland, but that's all I know about their early origins. Hence my
interest in your Scottish history. I have a tree similar to Betty's, but
start with a Gregen, Galfridus, Stephen, Alan Niger, Reginald an on.
I have 2 questions. First you have 2 lines from Swayne's 2 sons
Galfridus and Johannes. Which line did your 'Joseph' descend from?
Second, do you have any Crawfords in your file coming to Canada? I have
a Jacob b abt. 1777, David b abt. 1780, Henry (my 2nd great grandfather)
born Feb 23, 1783 in Long Island, NY., and lastly Caleb b abt. 1786.
Three of these claim Scottish ancestry. All of them were in Ontario in
1807.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Rae
