MARGARET JONES

Margaret Jones was the third child of Isaac and Rachel Ozburn Jones. There
is no known date of birth so it is estimated she was born between 1789 amd
1795 in either TN or N.C. The Crawford line (see below) reports Margaret's
place of birth as VA. The state lines were not well marked so it is
doubtful this will ever be determined. Margaret married about 1810 in
Overton Co, TN to John Crawford who later became a preacher. He was born 20
April 1789 in TN to Edward Crawford and his first wife ???? Gentry.

The Crawfords lived in Overton County till the early 1830s. During this
time a great many of the families in Overton moved north. The Edward and
Margaret Crawford with their three children also moved and settled in
Macoupin Co, IL. They are found in that county's census records of 1840.
Also a letter from John and Margaret dated 12 Jun 1836 to family members
tells of thier move. This letter is found in the Crawford Family Book. A
copy of this book in in the possession of Dow Williamson of Alpine, TN. Dow
is a descendant of the Crawfords and owns the old home place at the head of
Crawford Branch.

Margaret was sometimes called Peggy and it is not known whe she died.
According to the Crawford book, by the 1860s, John was living in Dallas Co,
MO, with wife Winnaford P. With nicknames being the way they are, is
Margaret "Peggy" and Winnaford P. they same woman?

Kathy Hancock has, to date, located three children for Margaret and John.

1. Ellis M. Crawford, b. 1816, Overton Co, TN; m. 18 Jan 1844 (vol 2, no
page number), Macoupin Co, IL, Agnes WARREN; and d. during the war.
(Civil War?). During the 1860s the family moved to Christian Co, MO,
located near Springfield, MO. At that time they had two daughters.
1. Mary Ann Winyfred Crawford, b. Nov 1844, IL.
2. M. L. Crawford, b. 1853.
2. Isaac D. Crawford, b. 1824, Overton, TN; m. 18 Jul 1843 (vol 2, no page
number), Macoupin Co, IL, to Mary LOCH, b. 1826, OH. The 1850 census of IL
list four children for this family.
1. Nancy Jane Margaret Crawford, b. 1 Aug 1844.
2. Sarah Crawford, b. 1846.
3. John W. Crawford, b. 1848.
4. Isaac Crawford, b. 1849.
3. James B. Crawford, b. 1825-30, Overton Co, TN. James had at least one
son. Crawford family lore has it that James abandond David and perhaps
other children in Illinois.
1. David Olander Crawford, b. 1857, m. 24 Feb 1881(vol 6, pg 5), Macoupin
Co, IL, Isabella JENKINS. David d. 12 Apr 1936.
Note: In the 1870 Macoupin County Census, David was found living with
Thomas Mahan. As of 2000 there are many Crawford descendants still living
in Macoupin Co, IL. David and Isabella had six children.
1. Melvin Crawford.
2. Bertha Crawford, m. an LOMELINO .
3. Stella Crawford, m. a BETTIS
4. Bert Crawford.
5. Effie L. Crawford.
