Well, while most all of our ancestors traveled at one point or another, I
think the point that Kaye was trying to make is that is would be most
unlikely for John Crawford to live in San Antonio and run a ranch on the
Mexican border. The closest border town to San Antonio is Del Rio which is
153 mile on today's Interstate Hwy system and then there is Laredo at 155
miles, Brownsville at 277 miles and El Paso at 558 miles. Now we do
things in a big way in Texas, but the 825,000-acre King Ranch is the largest
ranch in Texas and it only ran about 95 miles from Kingsville to Harlingen.
You have to remember that it is 900 miles across Texas from the New Mexico
border at El Paso to the LA border at Orange, TX.

That being said, it is possible that John C. Crawford at one time owned
and operated a ranch on the Mexican border, however, I don't believe this
was during the time he lived in San Antonio.

Another Texas girl who knows about farming and ranching and also has a
grandfather named John Crawford.
