Can you imagine the stories that could be recorded from the men who
refused to talk about their WW2 experiences. My brother-in-law was one of
those men. The few stories he told included one about General Patton. My
b-i-l was an electrician. He recalled that about once a week he was called
into the general's office to change his telephone. The general was paranoid
and thought his line was being tapped. While sitting on the floor working on
the telephone, General Patton would stand and stare at him, never saying a
word. You can imagine what an uncomfortable feeling that would be!
One day, while changing the phone lines, the general asked my b-i-law
where his helmet was. He wasn't wearing it. He lost his sargeant's stripes
for that. Reduced to a buck private!
